Before You Buy

So you are in the market for new HVAC equipment, Now what? How do you ensure you'll be getting what you are looking for or need. I'm sure if you ask every company they will tell you they are the best and they sell the best equipment. Here are a few steps you should use to ensure you'll be getting value for your dollar.

  1. Company Reputation- This requires investigation, check Angie's List, the BBB, etc. These links are available from our site and can be used to check on us or our competition.

  2. How long has the company been in business? This is no guarantee the company will be in business in the future, but helps to prove they have been doing something right before. - Guardian Heating and Cooling has been "Doing something right" since '1953'.

  3. Make sure the company is insured, licensed and bonded. This is for your protection, accidents and injuries happen and should not become the homeowners problem should an unfortunate incident arise.

  4. Does the Company have a real business location where you can speak face to face should a problem arise?

  5. Equipment: Once again every contractor will say their equipment is the best, but you can check any consumer reviews magazine and see how they rate manufactures equipment. More importantly is the installation of the equipment. With today's technology, it is more important than ever to find qualified installers. Qualified Installers can maximize comfort and minimize utility bills. Purchasing high efficiency equipment makes no sense if it doesn't save you money. Unfortunately it is happening every day.

  6. Ask about warranties, and guarantees. Will this company be able to service you in the future if a problem arises? Do they offer Maintenance Packages to ensure your product continues to work at maximum efficiency?

  7. If you are comparing products or quotes, check to see if they are quoted comparably. Did the companies size the product comparably or make suggestions on ductwork? Don't be afraid to ask the companies questions after they have left your home. Just because a proposal is less expensive doesn't mean its "cheaper", just as if a proposal is more expensive doesn't mean its "better". Make sure you are comfortable with the decision. You want to make sure there are not any additional costs for additional work needed after the fact.
